Sports Direct signs down, Newcastle United's first win and January transfer window plans

Newcastle United secured their first win of the season with victory over Burnley - a result which sparked huge celebration among the players, management and fans.

On top of that win, the club have confirmed that the Sports Direct signs are finally being removed from St James' Park - adding to the positive feeling currently sweeping across the fanbase.

On The Everything is Black and White Podcast, Andrew Musgrove is joined by The PA's Damian Spellman.

Damian has covered North East football for the last 24 years, and has been across the highs and lows of United - from Sir Bobby Robson's time on Tyneside to the last 14 years under Mike Ashley, and now the new ownership.

The pair discuss the first two months of the Public Investment Fund, PCP and The Reubens ownership, the victory over Burnley and also the January transfer window.

They also take a look at the current playing staff and what has changed since Eddie Howe was appointed manager - with a debate over the defence and praise for Jonjo Shelvey and Joelinton.

Speaking about the win over Burnley, Damian said: "It was massive.

"Not just for confidence but to reduce the gap to three points - when you look there is already a sort of break-line starting to form in the table and you don't want to be getting more than six points off the pace, even at this stage of the season.

"Given the disappointment of the Norwich game - where there were so many positives to take given they were with 10 men - they could have quite easily lost that game but didn't and didn't deserve to.

"Against Burnley, it was so important that even on a day when they didn't play as well as they have, that they came away with the points.

"Training this week will be a much happier play for all the atmosphere seems fantastic, but you can get into a losing habit and sometimes forget how to win but they remembered how to win on Saturday!

"If they can keep that positivity, if you can go to Leicester and come away with something then that would really start to build confidence and keep the belief that they get themselves out of the hole they are in."
