Sports Direct has insisted it is confident a 674 million euro tax bill in Belgium is close to being resolved, revealing authorities have confirmed in writing "that they are satisfied that they have all the information they require from Sports Direct and that they are satisfied that VAT has been correctly accounted for in the information they have reviewed so far".
The update comes as the retailer said revenues increased 14% to £2 billion with pretax profits up 160% to £193 million, with sales in Europe rising, but performance in the UK and the rest of the world down.
