Health secretary Matt Hancock today said sports centres and concert venues will be converted into vaccine hubs to make sure as many people as possible get the coronavirus jab.
Speaking in the House of Commons today Mr Hancock said the NHS had begun the "Herculean task" of rolling out the vaccine across the country.
800,000 doses of the Pfizer/BionTech vaccine have arrived in the UK and have been sent to the first 70 hospital hubs across the country.
Mr Hancock said more doses will arrive next week and he said the next tranche of places to get the vaccine will be announced today.
He said more hospitals will get the vaccine next week - along with GPs.
And he said care homes will get the vaccine before Christmas.
Mr Hancock said that ion the New Year concert venues and sports centres will be used for 'community rollout' so the vaccine can be accessed by as many people as possible
Mr Hancock praised all those involved, adding: “Months of trials involving thousands of people have shown that this vaccine works and is safe, and by coming forward you’re taking the best possible step to protect yourself, your loved ones and protect the NHS.
“Help is on its way and the end is in sight, not just of this terrible pandemic but of the onerous restrictions that have made this year so hard for so many. But even while we can now see the route out, there’s still a long march ahead. Let’s not blow it now.
“There are worrying signs of the virus growing in some parts of the country, including parts of Essex, London and Kent, and over the coming weeks and months we must all keep following the rules to keep people safe and make sure we can get through this safely together.”
