Sporting News selects Ohio State’s Chase Young and J.K. Dobbins as preseason All-Americans

It’s getting closer, but we’re still a couple of months away from the start of the college football season. While it’s impossible to turn your television set on to watch a live game just yet, there’s plenty of preseason predictions and lists to consume your time.

One of those is the Sporting News, who just released its preseason college football All-American teams. You’d expect to have some Ohio State players appearing on such a list on an almost yearly basis, and that’s just what we have.

On the First Team, Bill Bender of the Sporting News recognizes defensive end Chase Young. He has this to say about the rising junior that will almost assuredly be gone as one of the top picks in next year’s NFL Draft.

“Young follows Joey and Nick Bosa at Ohio State, but he has the talent to follow them into the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He made the game-saving tackle against Penn State last year, a nod to his ability to diagnose the run off the edge. He will get better with the addition of new defensive coordinator Greg Mattison.”

Young was looked at more heavily last year once Nick Bosa went down with injury, and he didn’t disappoint. The 6-5, 265 lb edge rusher had 25 total tackles, 10.5 of those by way of the sack variety. He should be ready to make an even bigger leap this fall.

Also mentioned is running back J.K. Dobbins on the Second Team. As a freshman, Dobbins burst on the scene while spelling an injured Mike Weber and set a new freshman program record for rushing yards in a season. He is the only OSU back to have back-to-back 1,000 yard rushing seasons in both his junior and senior seasons. He’ll be the main option at tailback in 2019 and should be in the conversation for some pretty big awards.

Congratulations to both for the preseason love. They’ll tell you though that it means more to get the same recognition after confetti falls from the sky.

Here’s the rest of the preseason Sporting News All-Americans.
