Sporting News ranks CFB’s top 25 QBs: Where is Jake Fromm?

Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm has had a successful first two years in Athens, leading his team to back-to-back SEC Championships (winning one of them and coming oh so close in another), coming out on top of a Rose Bowl shootout and playing in a national championship game.

Now a junior, Fromm is ready to take his game to the next level and continue to build on that success. He’s received a ton of love this offseason, and many NFL Draft analysts view the former Houston County signal caller as a No. 1 pick in the 2020 draft.

The love for Fromm continued in a recent ranking story from Sporting News, in which they ranked college football’s top 25 quarterbacks of 2019. Fromm checked in at No. 3, trailing only Trevor Lawrence of Clemson (No. 1) and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa (No. 2).

Fromm is 23-5 as a starter, and he has led the Bulldogs to back-to-back appearances in the SEC championship game. Fromm did not suffer a sophomore slump. He totaled 54 touchdowns and 13 interceptions the last two seasons, and he maintained the same 9.0 yards per attempt. Georgia has a rebuilt receiving unit this season, and Fromm will face challenges. Perhaps he’ll get a third shot at Alabama and their star quarterback, who is next on this list.

No. 3 is pretty darn good, especially when you consider how stacked the field is this year. College football fans will get to enjoy some great quarterback play this season by elite passers from across the nation. On top of Tua, Lawrence and Fromm, there’s Ian Book from Notre Dame, Sam Elhinger from Texas and Oregon’s Justin Herbert. Jacob Eason at Washington is expected to have a big year. Shea Patterson at Michigan and the Aggies’ Kellend Mond are likely going to put up big numbers as well. I could even see Oklahoma bringing home a third consecutive Heisman Trophy as long as Jalen Hurts stays healthy and the Sooners keep winning.

Former Bulldogs Justin Fields (No. 11) and Jacob Eason (No. 19) were also both on the list.
