Sporting Lisbon boss discusses Bruno Fernandes speculation amid Man Utd transfer links

Sporting Lisbon coach Silas claims he is in the dark over Manchester United's interest in Bruno Fernandes.

The Portuguese playmaker has been a long-term target of the Red Devils, who are rumoured to be in talks over a potential £55million deal.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his assistant Mike Phelan are said to have made a personal check on Fernandes in last week's game against Porto.

The 25-year-old netted twice in Saturday's 3-1 win at Setubal and appeared to make reference to the transfer speculation surrounding him with his celebration.

However, Silas insists Fernandes is still part of his plans but admits he's unsure about his star man's future.

When asked about United's pursuit of the midfielder, Silsas said: "I can’t guarantee any of these things because I don’t know.

"I’m already thinking about the game with Benfica [on Friday] and I’m thinking about using him."

Silas revealed ahead of the game that he was already on the lookout for possible replacements in case Fernandes moves on.

"Bruno is a huge player and all players like him have a lot of market," he said.

"I don’t like to think about that, but I’ll be thinking of alternatives in case Bruno leaves. I hope it doesn’t happen, but we have to start thinking that."

Former Red Devil Rio Ferdinand got United fans purring on Friday when he tweeted to suggest the Portuguese star's arrival was imminent.

And 24 hours later he has done likewise, shortly after the 25-year-old scored for Lisbon, saying on his Twitter : "Brunooooo on the scoresheet tonight...."
