Sport exercises to do at home during the coronavirus lockdown

With government measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus meaning that many will be confined to their homes until at least May 5, many are finding it hard to exercise during these times.

Sport in Ireland is in full shutdown as people are asked not to travel more than two kilometres from their homes.

But during the lockdown, there are many easy workouts and exercises that you can do from home in the absence of a big space or gym equipment.

Here's 10 simple exercises that you can do at home:

Push ups

Plain and simple, push ups are easy and effective for working out everything from your abdominal muscles to triceps.

Sit ups

Sit ups are a simple workout if you want to focus on your abdominal muscles.

Bridge

A great exercise for a warm-up, the bridge is great to activate your core muscles before a workout.

Plank

Like the bridge, the plank is a great one for your core. Striking a balance between core work and abdominal work is also important.

Squats

Squats work essentially every muscle in your lower body, for a more complete workout you can add weight on your shoulders.

Burpees

A full body exercise, in one rep you'll work your arms, legs, chest and abs.

Walking lunges

Walking lunges will help work your lower body muscles but has the added benefit of improving your stability, mobility and balance.

Bicycle crunches

Bicycle crunches really target and work on your abdominal muscles, and are a little bit more difficult exercise than sit ups.

Straight-leg donkey kicks

For those looking to focus on the glutes, straight-leg donkey kicks are a good way to focus on them.

Bench dips

By using a coffee table or a chair at home, bench dips can work your triceps and your chest.
