'Spooky tourism' comes to Bristol as website sharing Bristol's haunted locations is launched

A new website has been launched to show off the more macabre side to Bristol.

Haunt Bristol, headed up by tourism board Visit Bristol, capitalises on a growing trend in travel dubbed 'spooky tourism'.

With a focus on Bristol’s alternative attractions, events and experiences, it offers information about spooky walking tours in the city, death cafés, creepy tourism experiences at places such as Arnos Vale Cemetery and The Hatchet and much more.

It also provides obscure, intriguing secrets about some of the city’s churches and other mysterious places, proving that Bristol is an alternative destination to visit all year-round.

The website is a sister site to Haunt Manchester, a subsection of Visit Manchester which launched in June 2018 and is co-ordinated by a team at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Emily Oldfield, who works on both Haunt Manchester and Haunt Bristol, said: "The launch of Haunt Bristol is incredibly exciting.

"It’s an opportunity to explore hidden histories and Gothic content in and around the city, as well as celebrating the people and places who contribute to Bristol’s alternative scene.

"We are looking forward to working with the talented team at Visit Bristol as well as connecting with a range of cultural organisations, venues, and individuals across the city.

"To have the opportunity to bring our Manchester model to Bristol is wonderful.

"There is clearly an appetite among creatives, locals, and tourists for exploring the more mysterious sides of the city.

"From underground music to unusual artwork, here at Haunt Bristol, we are determined to delve into the sides of the city perhaps less covered by the cultural mainstream."

More information can be found on Haunt Bristol's website and on its Facebook page.
