Derek Acorah's most supernatural moments remembered

Derek Acorah, whose death at the age of 69 was announced by his wife Gwen this morning, had several moments in the spotlight during his career as Britain's most high profile TV medium.

Born Derek Johnson in Bootle in 1950, Acorah was best known for hosting paranormal reality TV series Most Haunted.

Ghost hunter Lee Roberts described him as "one of the nicest guys in the paranormal industry" .

Derek made several other appearances on TV and also came close to a career in football.

His career had its ups and downs, but it seems unlikely he will be forgotten.

The Big Brother psychic session

There was the moment he showed off his psychic abilities in Celebrity Big Brother .

For his performance, Derek called on any spirits in the Big Brother house.

Earlier in the show Made in Chelsea star Sam had a question for Derek about the supernatural; “Derek, shall we do a Ouija board later?”

But Derek refused, saying: "There is nothing to be gained by me working with the vibrations of a Ouija board."

The time he was set up to fail

Derek was the guest medium for six series of Most Haunted, but left in 2005 after claims of fakery.

The show's resident parapsychologist Dr Ciaran O'Keeffe told The Mirror in late 2005 that he had set up Derek by having other crew members feed him false information about spirits in various locations.

It led to a bitter feud between the pair, with Acorah branding his former co-star "egotistical" and "big-headed."

In 2016, Derek was reportedly called into Preston-based halloween attraction Scare Kingdom Scream Park to investigate paranormal activity after staff were said to be too scared to work.

Eric Dowson, MD of Scare Kingdom Scream Park said at the time: “We needed to take action to keep these spirits in check, and Derek Acorah has been kind enough to agree to come along and investigate, to put everyone’s minds at rest, and settle any real ghosts that might be present.”

When Derek entered the Celebrity Big Brother to the cries of "Mary loves Dick".

An odd phrase to hear if you don't know the story behind it.

On a ghost hunting show, the clairvoyant became possessed by Mary, who proceeded to confess her love for Dick. Repeatedly.

Through the medium, Mary told Yvette Fielding: "Mary loves Dick. Mary loves Dick. Mary loves Dick."
