Spooky Home Alone fan theory claims Kevin is sadistic serial killer Jigsaw

One is a pale-skinned sadist who enjoys creating elaborate traps to torture unsuspecting victims.

The other is... exactly the same, actually.

Home Alone youngster Kevin McAllister has more in common than you might think with serial killer Jigsaw from the Saw horror films.

So much so, some fans on Reddit are convinced Home Alone is Jigsaw's villain origin story, and Kevin grows up to be the cruel murderer.

They've spotted several convincing points relating to their torture techniques and appearances - but what do you think?

In 1990's Home Alone, Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) is accidentally abandoned by his family when they go on holiday and, left by himself in the house, he is forced to devise ways to fend off lurking burglars.

Meanwhile, in 2004 film Saw, Jigsaw is diagnosed with terminal cancer and decides to kidnap and trap people in sick games which often result in their grisly demise.

Kevin is proven to enjoy inflicting pain on the burglars, laughing while they writhe in agony - and Jigsaw also loves torturing people.

The traps Kevin sets out are based on moments from his childhood and carefully planned, while Jigsaw's puzzles are also based on specific ills he believes his victims have committed.

Kevin is terrified of the furnace in Home Alone, and imagines it coming to life - and this might have inspired Jigsaw's plot to burn someone alive in Saw II.

Jigsaw communicates with his victims via a screen in the room they are trapped in, while Kevin uses recordings of a gangster film to scare off intruders.

Kevin records his uncle in the shower in Home Alone 2, while Jigsaw watches a live feed of his victims while they suffer.

And Kevin develops an obsession with his next-door neighbour Marley, who is rumoured to a serial killer known as the South Bend Shovel Slayer.

However, Jigsaw's real name is revealed to be John Kramer - though Kevin could have changed his name.

Another major hole in the theory is the timing - Kevin is a child in Home Alone, and the Saw films only came out ten years later but Jigsaw is a grown man.

Saw creator James Wan addressed the rumours and revealed it certainly wasn't something he considered when the films were made.

"I should've known all along that Macaulay Culkin would grow up to be John Kramer. I think it's awesome," he told the Huffington Post.

"I'm very flattered that people take the time to have fun with all these fan theories.

"I think that's why I make these movies. I want the fans out there to have fun with them."

But Macaulay loves the conspiracy theory - and said it would explain why Kevin devised bizarre traps instead of calling the police.

"OK, this kid's a really clever kid right? But these guys are about to break in, why doesn't he just call the cops?" he told Jimmy Fallon.

"He makes a master plan, he uses micro machines, but for real, there's landlines!

"There's no cell phones, but still, I think that's an enormous plot hole."

But, he added: "I don't actually spend my days thinking about it, though."
