Spooky goings-on in Courtney Love's studio

Once again, the ghost in the machine prevents Courtney Love from delivering a new album on time.

Of course, Courtney's behaviour has long prompted her handlers to wait until she has left the room before they cross their eyes, twirl a finger next to their temple, and mouth the apologetic explanation "ghost in the machine" at whichever newbie she has just slapped/lovebitten/accused of being the second gunman on the grassy knoll.

Consider this a metaphor no more. Ms Love's representative has issued a statement explaining that the mixing of the Nobody's Daughter album has been held up by "paranormal technical issues".

Quite literally a ghost in the machine then, and we may regard this as evidence of a new commitment on Love's part to provide her own punchlines. Don't believe me? Then know this: the album is being officially sponsored by both a tequila brand and a tampon firm.
