Splash Brothers barely made a ripple in Game 3 loss to Rockets

The Golden State Warriors are up two games to one in the Western Conference Semifinals after the Houston Rockets defeated them in overtime Saturday night, 126-121.

The top reason this game wasn’t a blowout in Houston’s favor is a man named Kevin Durant — the back-to-back and reigning Finals MVP scored 46 points. But he didn’t have much help from his friends, especially the usually-reliable Splash Brothers in Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. With the Splash Brothers barely making a ripple, the Warriors couldn’t force a win to take a 3-0 lead in the contentious series.

Curry shot a dismal 7-of-23 from the field, missed seven of nine three-point attempts and made one-third of this free throws, for a meek 17 points.

Thompson’s performance wasn’t much better. Although he made both of his free-throw attempts, Thompson missed 10 of his 16 field-goal attempts and only two of his six three-point attempts. Of the other double-digit scoring contributors, Draymond Green added 19 points and Andre Iguodala chipped in 16.

Neither Curry nor Thompson is fully healthy. Both are battling ankle injuries sustained in the Game 6 first-round win over the Los Angeles Clippers and Curry is recovering from a dislocated finger on his shooting hand. But everyone is banged up this time of year. Hopefully the team’s stars will shine once more in Monday night’s Game 4.
