Spirit of the Rhine: everything we know so far about Saga's new river cruise ship

Saga is set to expand its cruise offering with a brand new river cruise ship.

Spirit of the Rhine will be joining the over 50s travel firm's fleet in spring 2021, and it sounds like there will be quite the luxury experience on offer for guests.

The holiday company has already given cruise fans a sneak peek by releasing renderings of the ship's exterior as well as the restaurant, cabins and library, and anticipation is already building for the new boutique offerings.

The 190-passenger ship will boast a length of 135m and will offer four decks for passengers.

The cabins are set to have an average floor plan of 17 sq m, elegant and contemporary decor, and in most cases come with a French balcony and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Outside of the cabins there will be plenty for passengers to explore on board.

The ship boasts a library, a sun deck, gym and plenty more features such as a hot tub and a barbecue area.

As for the dining? Expect fine dining offerings at the two restaurants on board; a main à la carte restaurant a well as a boutique eatery which features show cooking (the latter will need to be booked in advance).

Extra perks for passengers on every boutique cruise will include a VIP travel service from their front door, afternoon tea, complimentary Wi-Fi, concierge services and included gratuities.

Spirit of the Rhine will make her debut on the 23rd March 2020 with a Beatles-themed itinerary across Amsterdam, Hoorn, Enkhuizen and Zaandem.

The cruise ship will feature a lounge and bar as well as a library (Saga)

Highlights will include live performances from tribute band the Bootleg Beatles, a private tour of the Beatles Museum in the Netherlands, and a souvenir Beatles in Holland book autographed by the author.

Prices start from £1,249pp based on two people sharing a lower deck cabin.

After her inaugural voyage, the ship will offer a host of itineraries along the Rhine, Moselle, Main, Danube and the waterways of Holland.

There will be some fun sailings including more themed itineraries around iconic figures including Rembrandt, and Gilbert and Sullivan.

The themed sailings will also include appearances from famous faces like DJ Johnnie Walker, cricket commentator Jonathan Agnew, broadcasters Alistair Stewart and John Sergeant, TV gardener Charlie Dimmock, art expert Raj Bisram and wine connoisseur Jilly Goolden.
