Spinningfields to get Italian street food restaurant as Wolf eyes up second site

Wolf Italian Street Food - the restaurant brand that brought the 'Italian burrito' to the Arndale - is eyeing up a second Manchester site.

The owners have applied to open a new street food venue in Spinningfields, taking over the vacant former Wahu site.

Planning applications have been submitted for the empty unit on The Avenue, close to Australasia and its flower-laden bar Sunset.

The unit was previously home to healthy eating concept Wahu, where diners could build their own lunch using a base, protein and other extras.

Wahu closed quietly several months ago and the venue has been empty ever since.

Now it could be home to Wolf Italian Street Food, which specialises in piadinas - a staple of the Emilia-Romagna region that sees Italian flatbread folded around cured meats and cheeses.

These Italian 'burritos' are already available at the Halle Place food court development in the Arndale centre, where neighbours include Barburrito and Archie's.

Managing director Tim Entwistle said: "The lunch time office-worker crowd is what we're best suited to, so Spinningfields would be perfect.

"We've got a good design and it's a great site, so all being well we're hoping to start work soon.

"The menu will be very similar to our offering at Halle Place - same quality food. Having a second site will definitely boost our Arndale one. We just want people to see what we're all about!"
