A Spinningfields bar is hosting a spicy chicken wing competition with some of the hottest sauces in the world - and the winner will get a £50 bar tab.
Blues Kitchen, on Quay Sreet, Manchester, is partnering with Devil Dog Sauces to put on the event on November 17, with 50 spaces available for brave attendees to put their taste buds to the test.
In a post to their Instagram, the bar said “On Wednesday 17th November we are teaming up with our pals over at @devil_dog_sauces to serve up a HOT wing competition that will blow your head off.
“Think you can handle the heat? We only have 50 spaces for competitors, sign up for first access and more info via our link in bio.”
Sauce spiciness is measured in Scoville units, with five rounds to complete in order to win. For comparison, a jalapeno is around 2,500- 8000 Scoville units, and even the starting sauces drizzled on the chicken are several steps up from that point.
Round One is quite literally a baptism of fire, and begins with the Mango, Scotch Bonnet & Lime sauce. Don’t be fooled with the introduction of fruit- this sauce measures around 400,000 Scoville units, which is 100 times hotter than a jalapeno.
In the next round there’s the Reaper, Scorpion & 7 Pot Chilli sauce, which ranks around 1.6 million Scoville units, followed by the Trinidad Scorpion Butch T coming in at 1.2 million units, and the 7 Pot Primo which is 1.3 million units.
The third round will amp up the heat even further, featuring wings smothered in The Naga Viper before the ominously named Carolina Reaper appears in round four.
For those who’ve managed to complete the previous rounds, the finale brings the Armageddon Chilli before the triumphant participant can claim their prize.
If you would rather be a spectator than a participant, free hot wings- minus the spiciest sauce- will be available.
A variety of cocktails can be washed down to cool your tongue, including classic offerings such as Negroni, Mojitos and Espresso Martinis.
The regular menu evokes the food of the Deep South in America, such as burgers, pork ribs and shrimp tacos- as well as chicken wings, of course.
