Spine-tingling moment Liverpool fans sing You'll Never Walk Alone after return to Anfield

There was a spine-tingling moment before kick-off as Liverpool welcomed supporters back to Anfield.

Minutes before the match with Wolves got underway, the supporters allowed into the ground joined together to sing You’ll Never Walk Alone.

The anthem has been played before every Liverpool home game staged behind closed doors over these past nine turbulent months.

But this was the first time since March that it had been accompanied by the sound of supporters inside Anfield.

Liverpool’s last home match before the coronavirus pandemic forced English football fixtures to be played without fans came on March 11 when Jurgen Klopp’s side faced Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

After lockdown began, the song was played by radio stations across the world as a sign of solidarity and togetherness in a time of crisis.

But its airing at Anfield tonight, coupled with the fact that 2,000 fans were permitted to attend the match, gives hope that football, like life itself, could soon return to normal.
