Spine-chilling recording catches 'ghost crying for help' in 12th-century castle

Ghost hunters in Ireland claim that they've recorded the voice of a tortured spirit begging for help.

They said they caught a ghoul at 12th-century Lackeen Castle near Abbeville in Co Tipperary calling out: "Help me."

The group, Paranormal Awakenings Ireland, believes it's the first-ever audio recording of a ghost in Ireland.

PJ Kavanagh, 63, who made the recording with teammate Philip Costello said it was so rare an "American paranormal society, which includes sceptics, are dedicating a podcast to it."

The video was recorded on a camcorder’s night-vision mode on May 26.

The ancient building, also known as O’Kennedy Castle, was rebuilt in the 16th century. It was owned by Irish chieftain Brian Ua Cinneide Fionn, who died in 1588.

A famous religious 9th-century manuscript called the Stowe Missal – which is a small Mass book of the early Irish Church – was found there and may have been written at the spot, according to the Royal Irish Academy in Dublin.

The Lorrha Missal became known as the Stowe Missal when its former owner, the Duke of Buckingham at Stowe House in Buckinghamshire, England, sold it in 1849. It was eventually put on display by the RIA.

Former roofer PJ told The Irish Mirror: “During restoration work at the castle in the 18th century, John O’Kennedy is credited with finding the Stowe Missal hidden in the walls.

“It is believed the Mass book was in use at Lorrha during the 11th century and later discovered inside a bejewelled metal box. We went there because of its amazing history.

“I was there before, around five years ago and captured a dark shadow in a photo. I wanted to go back to explore some more. I had unfinished business and was compelled to go back.

“I recorded a video of a spirit saying, ‘Help me’. I only saw it on playback. It is ground-breaking.

“We also recorded another spirit at the top of a staircase in the castle. We don’t know what it is exactly, but it looks like someone bending over and kneeling down.

“It looked straight at us. It was chilling. A podcast by the World Paranormal Research Society is going to air the recording of the spirit.”
