Spike in coronavirus cases in Scotland as 60 positive overnight but no recorded deaths for 23 days

The number of positive coronavirus figures in Scotland continues to rise after a further 60 cases were identified overnight.

The latest Scottish Government figures revealed there have now been no deaths related to the killer virus for the last 23 days but the total number of confirmed cases is now 18, 950.

261 people are currently being treated in hospital with three in intensive care.

The total number of Covid-19 deaths in Scotland remains at 2,491.

Overall, 39 of the new cases emerged in the NHS Grampian area as Nicola Sturgeon said she was "furious" at Aberdeen FC players who broke lockdown rules.

The First Minister said it was "unacceptable" that eight players had visited a bar in the city on Saturday night.

They are all now self-isolating after two tested positive for the virus.

Lockdown measures were reintroduced in the city on Wednesday.

It emerged an officer at HMP Low Moss prison, near Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, had tested positive for have the virus on Friday.

It is understood that almost 50 of the worker’s colleagues are now self-isolating as a precaution while additional staff have been brought into the prison.

Meanwhile, a planned protest by health and social care workers got underway in Glasgow today.

Campaigners have planned the demonstration at Glasgow Green after they said a UK Government pay rise excludes "a massive number of healthcare workers" who have served on the front line during the pendemic.

Scottish Labour's health spokeswoman Monica Lennon has called for pay talks to begin for Scottish workers - with health devolved to Holyrood.

Ms Lennon said: "Clapping for healthcare workers doesn't pay their bills."
