Spielberg's take on those star-crossed lovers: 'West Side Story' returns

ENCORE! © FRANCE 24

It's hard to imagine a more perfect musical than the 1961 version of "West Side Story", and yet Steven Spielberg took on precisely that challenge. Film critic Lisa Nesselson tells us why that gamble paid off, with a particularly lyrical appraisal of some of the film's highlights.

Meanwhile, we're joined in the studio by filmmaker Hamy Ramezan, whose feature "Any Day Now" tells the story of an Iranian family seeking asylum in Finland. Hamy tells us about re-creating the very specific complicity between siblings and parents, and how his personal experience shaped this film.

And we take a look at a series of re-mastered films featuring French cinema's favourite rueful schoolboy, Antoine Doisnel, as François Truffaut's classics return to screens large and small.
