Hunter bands have been given the opportunity to share a stage with 2026 ARIA Hall of Fame inductees Spiderbait on their upcoming tour.
Spiderbait are playing shows at the Shoal Bay Country Club in Port Stephens on July 17 and a Newcastle gig on August 1 at the King Street Bandroom as part of their Ivy & The Big Apples 30th anniversary tour.
On the band's social media they posted, "We are looking for a killer opener for our upcoming Spiderbait show and are keen to spotlight a great female or gender-diverse artist in the local scene.
"We came up through local venues and local communities so want to keep supporting artists coming up now.
"Who should [Spiderbait bassist and co-vocalist] Janet [English] be checking out?"
The 30th anniversary tour of Spiderbait's 1996 record was announced last month for capital cities, but after an overwhelming response, regional dates have been added.
Wollongong alt-rockers Tumbleweed will also join Spiderbait at both shows.
It will make for a painful decision for '90s alt-rock lovers, as The Living End last week announced a show also on August 1 at Newcastle's NEX.
Ivy & The Big Apples was Spiderbait's third album and boasted their iconic Triple J Hottest 100-topping single Buy Me A Pony. It was also the first Australian song to finish at No.1 in the listener-voted poll.
At just one minute and 44 seconds long, it was a sonic blast of fuzz-pop that cynically tore at the pretentiousness of the music business and delighted punters.
Ivy & The Big Apples also spawned Spiderbait favourites Hot Water and Milk, Calypso, and Joyce's Hut.
