Spider-Man: Marvel fans boycott Sony after Tom Holland character is 'dropped' from MCU

Marvel reportedly “won’t produce any further” Spider-Man films after Disney and Sony failed to come to an agreement on financing for the franchise, leading fans to boycott the latter.

The two studios were apparently unable to reach a financial agreement after Disney asked that any future films starring Tom Holland’s hero be a “50/50 co-financing arrangement” and Sony refused, according to a report in Deadline.

Disney was not interested in continuing the current terms where Marvel receives in the range of five per cent of first dollar gross, sources told the publication.

Marvel president Kevin Feige, who served as creative lead in the two latest Spider-Man films, will not have the same role in the two movies reportedly in the works unless an agreement is reached.

Marvel fans expressed their anger and disappointment on Twitter, with many announcing that they would be boycotting Sony.

“Sony has decided to pull Spider-Man from the MCU and I have literally never been as livid,” wrote one fan.

Another fan added: “Spider-Man has been amazing in the MCU far from home made a billion dollars Tom Holland is Incredible as Spider-Man Why [sic] would Sony not let them make anymore movies after Spider-Man 3.”

The news regarding the superhero’s future in the MCU comes in the wake of Spider-Man: Far From Home becoming Sony’s highest grossing film of all time.
