Spider-Man: Brand New Day debuts to £688.5 million at global box office

Tom Holland plays Peter Parker for the fourth time in Spider Man: Brand New Day (Ian West/PA) - (PA Wire)

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has grossed 927 million US dollars (£688.5 million) at the global box office, making it the second biggest opening weekend of all time.

The blockbuster, which marks Tom Holland’s fourth outing as the superhero, depicts Peter Parker in a world that has forgotten he is Spider-Man.

He continues to fight crime as his powers evolve and a dangerous new enemy emerges.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day made 355 million dollars (£263 million) in the US and Canada on its opening weekend and another 572 million dollars (£425 million) at the international box office.

China led the international ticket sales at 121 million dollars (£90 million).

Its opening weekend is second only to Avengers: Endgame, which grossed 1.22 billion dollars (£905 million) when it was released in 2019.

Sony Pictures spent 225 million dollars (£167 million) to make Spider-Man: Brand New Day, not including marketing costs.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said in a statement: “This is a truly phenomenal opening, and we are grateful to audiences everywhere for coming out and experiencing our film the way it was meant to be seen.”

Feige, who produced the film, added: “This debut reflects the enduring power of Marvel’s characters, and the connection they continue to have with fans around the world and, as audiences saw, it sets up exciting things to come.”

Marvel Studios now has the four largest openings at the global box office, not adjusted for inflation: Avengers: Endgame (1.22 billion dollars/£905 million), Spider-Man: Brand New Day (927 million dollars/£688.5 million), Avengers: Infinity War (640 million dollars/£475 million) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (600 million dollars/£446 million).

The top five is rounded out by Disney’s Zootopia 2, which made 560 million dollars (£416 million) during its opening weekend in 2025.

The success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day follows the recent success of Sir Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which has made 911 million dollars (£676 million) at the global box office so far.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has received positive reviews from critics and boasts a score of 90% on film review site Rotten Tomatoes.

The film also stars Holland’s wife Zendaya as Peter Parker’s love interest MJ Watson, Jon Bernthal as the vigilante Frank Castle and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey from the X-Men.
