Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse release date, plot, cast, and everything we know so far

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is on its way to the big screen – just quite a bit later than we first thought. Still, it looks like the threequel will be worth the wait, and we've got everything you need to know right here to tide you over until 2027 (and there's some live-action Spidey action in the meantime thanks to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, too...).

The third movie in the seismic animated trilogy will bring the story of Miles Morales' adventures in the multiverse to an end – and, after that cliffhanger end to Across the Spider-Verse, we can't wait to get back into the action.

Below, you'll find your complete guide to Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, from the release date, to plot details, confirmed cast members, and much more. But, first, we figure you should catch up on that dramatic Spider: Man: Across the Spider-Verse ending. And if that's not enough, you can check out our list of all the upcoming Marvel movies for even more.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is arriving in cinemas on June 18, 2027.

The film was indefinitely delayed amid the WGA writers' and SAG-AFTRA actors' strike in 2023, and it has taken almost two years to set a definitive date. It was originally slated for March 29, 2024, before it was removed from the release calendar and delayed to 2027

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse recap and ending explained

Almost the entire second half of Across the Spider-Verse sets up the events of the next movie. After Miles is brought to the Spider Society HQ, Miguel tells him that he’s disrupted a canon event by saving the police captain in Mumbattan, which will have catastrophic effects for that dimension.

Not only this, but Miguel also tells Miles that he can’t do this in his world either, as it becomes clear his father’s death will be a canon event that has to happen. This is because he’s about to be sworn in as the police captain within the next day (a vision from The Spot earlier in the movie confirmed his upcoming death too).

Miles isn’t about to sacrifice his dad, though, so he escapes the Spider Society by hopping into the 'go home machine' to return to his dimension and save his father. However, given that the spider who bit him was actually from a different Earth, Miles ends up on Earth-42, where his uncle is alive, his dad is dead, and that version of Miles is actually The Prowler.

Meanwhile, back on Earth-1610, Spider-Gwen has made her way there (after a quick sojourn to save her own dad from being captain) only to find that Miles is nowhere to be found. She’s determined to save him, though, so enlists some old (and new) friends together again to help find him.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse plot

Although there is no official synopsis yet, we do have some key details about Beyond the Spider-Verse's plot.

In CinemaCon 2025, filmmakers Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson shared some official images and footage, and teased a little bit of the story, revealing that Miles Morales is on the run and his friends might not be able to save him. "Everyone keeps telling me how my story is supposed to go," Miles says in the early footage, which showed Miles and Gwen reuniting, as well as Miles fighting The Prowler before going on an adventure with him.

We’re expecting the story will pick up straight where Across the Spider-Verse left off, with Miles using his electric powers to escape the grasp of Uncle Aaron and the Prowler. We expect he'll then be navigating that world as he battles against the clock to return to Earth-1610 to save his dad. Just how he’ll go about this though remains to be seen.

Speaking about the third movie, co-director Kemp Powers told SFX magazine that the cliffhanger is very important to the third film. "I think it’s a good cliffhanger. We hope that it’s a satisfying tee-up for what’s coming in the third film because you want people to be excited about what’s coming next. And it helps that we knew going in that this was part two of a three-part story. Since you already know that that third story is guaranteed, you can tackle it a bit differently."

Co-director Joaquim Dos Santos said they were inspired by one sequel in particular too: "I was very satisfied after The Empire Strikes Back, and hopefully, this is our Empire."

Moore also told ScreenRant what viewers can expect in a February 2024 interview: "Action... you can expect Miles and Gwen. You can expect everything [laughs] you're expecting the continuation from the second one. You can expect to see The Spot; you can expect some action-packed energy and some dilemmas and problems to solve."

The film's composer Daniel Pemberton also discussed his hopes for the upcoming threequel, revealing to GamesRadar+ in an interview that the team are feeling the pressure when it comes to satisfyingly closing the trilogy. He said: "They are beavering away on it as we speak and I think the main thing for everyone is we are so proud of what we have done on these movies and you want a classic trilogy, you don’t want to let it down, you don’t want to Godfather it. We are feeling added pressure - in capital letters, underlined, with a big exclamation mark at the end."

In December 2024, the directors also gave an exciting tease on the final arc of the trilogy. Persichetti and Thompson said in a statement: "The creativity and care poured into every minute of this project has been truly inspiring. We have crafted what we feel is a very satisfying ending, and we can't wait for fans to experience it – we're bringing everything we've got!"

In February 2026, Miller said that the pressure was on to up the ante for round three. "We put the most pressure on ourselves," he said. "There's no one that puts more pressure on us than ourselves, wanting to outdo ourselves each time and see things that you haven't seen before and make it feel like something you've never experienced before. And so, trying to get something that is as worthy as the previous two has been the driver."

"The main trick is to play free, and to have the whole team understand that their job is to try stuff," Lord added. "To make mistakes, to see where this could go. And I can report that they're going hard. It's so great."

Meanwhile, in an interview with GamesRadar+, the duo opened up about how Spider-Verse has inspired their other projects. "I think those movies taught us to trust the audience," Lord said. "On top of that, we learned from those movies that people want a visual experience they've never seen before," Miller added. "They want to be surrounded and overwhelmed by the images. We wanted to make sure that we were giving them a spectacle that felt new and fresh and original, and so that was like a real driver for us."

We also know that this isn't quite the end of the story: a Spider-Punk spin-off is being co-written by Daniel Kaluuya.
