Shoes and the Spice Girls helped boost summer footfall and revenues at London Designer Outlet, the owner of the Wembley shopping centre said on Thursday.

Property developer Quintain saw sales at its retail site next to Wembley stadium jump 9.2% in June, July and August compared with the same three months a year earlier.

Same-store sales rose 4.8% and total footfall was up 3%.

It benefited from having busy restaurants and shops before concerts from artists such as The Who and the Spice Girls. A number of retailers in the centre offer home delivery.

Sue Shepherd at Realm, which manages London Designer Outlet, said: “The summer months have been very busy, with guests travelling from near and far to enjoy aspirational and desirable brands at up to 70% off RRP throughout the year.”

Footwear brands saw the biggest growth, with a 23% hike in sales. Firms based there include Dr Martens, Kurt Geiger and Converse. Among the non-shoe companies at the London Designer Outlet are Haribo, Denby and Phase Eight.

The good performance comes despite challenging High Street conditions, as chains grapple with online competition and weaker consumer confidence.
