Spice Girls ‘Glastonbury headline set’ leaves fans in despair after ‘utterly embarrassing’ Stormzy booking

Glastonbury Festival fans are not happy with the potential prospect of the Spice Girls headlining the event alongside grime artist Stormzy.

The reunited group – minus Victoria Beckham – could be bringing girl power to Worthy Farm's Pyramid Stage next June after Mel B said the possibility has “been talked about” with organisers Michael and Emily Eavis.

Speaking on Jessie Ware's Table Manners podcast she said: “I think Mel C would really appreciate us doing that – she’s the cool one. She’s the cool indie chick.”

Fans were left in despair with one tweeting: “Finding out that Spice Girls will almost definitely headline Glastonbury is the cherry on top of an absolute cowpat of a week. Cancelled.”

Another posted: “The Spice Girls. Are in talks to perform at Glastonbury.. Ha Ha that's their ticket sales f***** for next year.”

A third wrote: “Spice Girls at #Glastonbury I might not pay for the rest of my ticket... (sic).”

Mel B's comments come days after Stormzy was confirmed as the first headliner for the music bonanza which will return in 2019 after a fallow year this year.

The news riled some festival-goers who claimed the artist, who previously performed on the Other Stage in 2017, is not “big enough” to headline the event having only released one album.

One Twitter user posted: “Stormzy announced as first headliner for Glastonbury? RIP Glasto.”

Another tweeted: “Stormzy HEADLINING Glastonbury, utterly embarrassing.”

Stormzy, real name Michael Omari, will be the first grime MC to headline the famous festival a year on from his BRIT award winning album Gang Signs and Prayers.

Other names rumoured to have landed headline slots include Sir Paul McCartney and Madonna.

Kylie Minogue is tipped to be taking on the Sunday afternoon Legends Slot. The Australian pop princess was scheduled to headline in 2005 but cancelled a month before as she battled breast cancer.

Tickets for Glastonbury sold out within 32 minutes last month, with re-sale up for grabs in April.

Glastonbury Festival takes place from June 26-30 2019
