Spice Girls apologise to Irish fans after Croke Park sound issues

The Spice Girls apologised to Irish fans after the opening gig of their reunion tour on Friday was hit with sound problems.

Concert-goers at Croke Park were left fuming – and it was claimed people walked out in “huge numbers” as they couldn’t hear the iconic pop group.

Mel B took to Instagram yesterday to say she hopes the “vocals and sound will be better” after issues plagued the Dublin debut of their 13-date tour.

In a 6am video, Scary Spice apologised to fans, some of whom were left sobbing at
the gig due to the poor sound quality.

She pledged the crew would improve the technical issues so fans could hear her, Mel C, Geri Horner and Emma Bunton when they next take to the stage in Cardiff.

A make-up free Mel, 43, appeared exasperated as she spoke into the camera clad in a white hotel bath robe.

She said: “Hey guys, thank you for attending our show tonight in Dublin. We will see you in Cardiff and hopefully the vocals and the sound will be much better.”

The feisty songstress then let out a sigh. But fans were quick to tell the band what they want, what they really, really want.

They took to social media in their droves to vent fury at paying so much for tickets and not being able to enjoy the show.

One wrote: “Cannot hear anything. I want to bawl.”

Another tweeted: “Too bad you can’t hear a thing. The sound is awful... Loads of people leaving.”

One added: “There’s something wrong when the crowd at a Spice Girls concert are all sitting down because no one has a clue what song is on as the sound is THAT bad...”

A third wrote: “You’ve taken time off work, travelling, accommodation and paying through the nose for a ticket. Not good enough.”

Another disappointed fan tweeted: “Yes. The sound is horrific. Even now when the girls are just talking you can’t hear them properly.”

Fans shelled out at least €110 a ticket to see the girl band, minus Posh Spice Victoria Beckham, play to a crowd of 58,000.

Despite the technical difficulties the Spice World opener was hailed by some as a success with Ginger Spice throwing back to her famous Union Jack dress.

The tour heads to Cardiff tomorrow before three nights at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium.
