Hearts chief Ann Budge is being tasked with re-exploring potential league reconstruction that could save her team from the drop - according to a report.
The BBC claim the Jambos chief will work on a solution only a week after a host of clubs called off talks with the SPFL's task force that she chaired with Hamilton's Les Gray.
It's understood all options are on the table with temporary, permanent and no changes to the current structure up for discussion.
A proposed format of 14-14-14 was on the table with other clubs also pushing for a 14-10-10-10 revamp with Scottish football looking for answers amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Clubs met on Friday with talks over bringing the Premiership season to an end high on the agenda with a verdict expected at the start of next week.
That would crown Celtic as champions and relegate Hearts but any changes ahead of the next campaign could hand the Jambos a chance to avoid the drop.
But any change must be ratified by clubs and comes after the season-ending vote in the Championship, League One and League Two.
Pundit Michael Stewart believes all options should be on the table with our game facing a defining decision.
He said: "The thing is, none of them are going to work in isolation. You’ve got diametrically opposed camps here. The only way you’re going to find a solution is the middle ground.
"You have it as a temporary fix just now which can finish in two years time, but you have to have it opened for the permanent camp, the possibility that it could become permanent.
"Otherwise you’re not going to get the numbers to get the temporary fix in the first place."
