SPFL on alert as Dutch football 'could reverse' decision to end their football season

A leading politician claims the decision to call time on the Dutch football season could potentially be reversed as angered clubs continue to vent their frustration amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mark Boumans is adamant teams in the Netherlands will explore every legal option available to them in the coming weeks with many sides left feeling short-changed by the decision to not declare champions and scrap promotion and relegation.

The likes of Cambuur have been left incensed with their 11-point lead in the second tier counting for little as they have missed out on promotion.

SPFL sides will be keeping a close eye on developments across the continent with the likes of Rangers and Hearts voting against the decision to call time on the Championship, League One and League Two season earlier this month.

The vote passed after Dundee eventually came out in favour on ending the season but a final decision on the Premiership awaits with Ann Budge and Les Gray currently chairing reconstruction talks.

Celtic will be crowned champions if the top flight follows suit with the divisions below but skipper Scott Brown insists he and his team-mates want to win the trophy on the pitch.

Statements and rebuttals have become the norm in recent weeks it's the same story in Holland as Boumans insists nothing is off the table as the recriminations continue.

He said: "I even think it can be reversed. My conclusion is that if half of the clubs plus one want to reverse the outcome of this week's chaotic decision-making, then that is possible."

And his warning comes in the wake of Utrecht insisting they will "do everything we can to get us right", after they missed out on a Europa League place.
