SPFL lower league loan window extended until end of March with return likely

The SPFL have extended the loan market for lower leagues clubs until the end of March.

The window was scheduled to close at the end of February but clubs were informed on Friday that it has been extended until March 31st.

Players will be permitted to move on-loan between Championship, League One and League Two clubs which is a boost to those clubs looking to reinforce their squads.

The SFA are expected to announce an update on the League One and Two seasons later this afternoon.

It's understood that clubs remain confident that they'll be granted a return to action with a commitment to test players already agreed.

Meetings between clubs and the SFA were postponed last week as the football authorities waited on a definitive update from the government on the roadmap ahead.

However, conversations continued over the weekend and it's expected that clubs will receive the green light to return to training shortly.

It's not yet been decided how many games will be played to complete the season.

Despite being the preferred option, it looks increasingly unrealistic that all 27 league fixtures can be squeezed in with alternative proposals on the table.
