SPFL League One and Two clubs handed green light to return to training

League One and Two clubs will return to training after receiving the green light from the authorities.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, speaking at her Tuesday briefing, confirmed that clubs could return and expected the news "will be welcomed by football fans across the country."

There has been no final confirmation on a restart date for the league season but the news is a positive indication that it will return.

Women's football clubs in SWPL1 will also be allowed to return to training on the same date.

The future for clubs below League Two remains uncertain as they still await clarity.

The Lowland League has a meeting scheduled with the SFA at 5pm on Tuesday where they expect an update.

The SFA issued a statement last night declaring that they were awaiting clarification from the Scottish Government.

However, it's understood that conversations have continued and with cases numbers dropping in Scotland clubs have been allowed to return to training.

Nicola Sturgeon said: "Later today, the Public Health Minister will support the resumption in Scottish Leagues 1 and 2, the Scottish Women's Premier League 1 and - for the purposes of playing Scottish Cup ties - certain Highland League teams."
