SPFL in Hearts and Partick Thistle flag blunder as Jags propose cheeky swap deal

Hearts were offered a swap deal by Partick Thistle after their champions title flag was sent to Glasgow’s West End by mistake.

The Jambos unfurled the Championship league flag before their opening day win over Celtic on their return to the Scottish Premiership.

Robbie Neilson's men got off to the perfect start by defeating the Hoops 2-1.

Thistle did the same before kicking off their campaign at home to Queen of the South after clinching the League One title last term.

But an SPFL mix up saw the maroon and white second tier flag sent to the Jags, who shared an image of the surprise delivery and tweeted the capital club, seeking their assistance in sourcing a red and yellow version.

In response, the capital club replied with a photoshopped Spiderman meme.

The two clubs were united in injustice last summer after both were demoted from the top flight and Champions respectively when the league body cut the league season short duer to the Covid pandemic.

Both challenged the decision and took legal action, their case eventually being heard by a Scottish FA arbitration panel.

The panel found in favour of the SPFL and rival clubs Dundee United, Raith and Cove Rangers, who challenged the move fearing their own promotions could be overturned.

The ‘M8 Alliance’, along with Stranraer, were forced to accept their fate, but both Hearts and Partick finished as league champions and have made string starts to their respective campaigns this season.
