SPFL fan return hammer blow as Nicola Sturgeon reveals further test event delay

The return of fans to stadiums looks to be hit by a further delay follow a Scottish Government announcement today.

Test events had taken place between Aberdeen and Kilmarnock and Celtic's trip to Ross County earlier this month as they were allowed for 300 season ticket holders,

However, after Nicola Sturgeon confirmed that football's fan return on September 14 has been postponed until at least October 5 a further test event between Aberdeen and Motherwell was knocked back.

Concerns over the financial damage to lower league and West of Scotland League clubs and their survival have been raised, with their season set to kick-off next month.

The First Minister today confirmed that an October 5 return was now "unlikely."

In an address to the Scottish Parliament, Sturgeon said: "It’s important that I indicate today that the route map changes with an indicative date of October 5 are unlikely now to go ahead on that timescale."

The current position is to be reviewed in three weeks.
