SPFL clubs set for crisis talks today as Covid chaos hits hard

Scottish football's 42 senior clubs will hold crisis talks this morning as they seek answers over the lower league shutdown and a £20m government package that hasn't materialised yet.

Urgent online discussions will be held by clubs across the four major tiers, alongside SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell, as measures dealing with the pandemic continue to hit hard, according to the Daily Record.

Premiership clubs are looking for answers over a £20m government bailout that was promised to them last month, with some reportedly struggling to meet January wage bills.

Maxwell has been in discussions with the Scottish Government over the emergency loans, but has claimed they're being held up by Brexit red tape and uncertainty over the potential interest rates involved.

League One and Two bosses are also expected to voice their concern over the SFA's decision to shut them down for at least three weeks as the Covid figures spiral out of control.

That decision was publicly backed by SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster on Monday, which is believed to have further infuriated several clubs.
