SPFL clubs face a whopping bill of £10k per week to test their players and staff for COVID-19.
The shock figures will see clubs paying out money that could get many in Scotland's top flight eight or nine players on a weekly-basis if they are to return to playing behind closed doors.
If Scottish Premiership clubs are to return to action in phase two of the government's plans to get professional sport back, they will have to adhere to strict measures that include testing players and staff twice a week for coronavirus.
Record Sport understands those tests will set clubs back a minimum of £250 per test and with a conservative estimate of needing 20 players, that will be a bill of £10k for playing staff alone per week until the restrictions are lifted.
With managers, coaching staff and medical personnel all needing to be tested on top of that, clubs could be looking at at least £12,500 per week just to be able to play.
Clubs will have no way around paying these fees if they are to return to action and with no fans attending games, that leaves them in even further financial difficulty ahead of the new season.
The costs are likely to rule out any chance of the three lower divisions in Scottish football restarting any time soon with the figures far too big for any part time club to take on.
That adds further risk to Hearts who have been relegated to the Championship and heightens fears that the second tier, as well as League One and League Two will be put into hibernation until such time as fans can attend matches again.
