SPFL closes in on long-term ESPN TV deal as Scottish football finds a home

ESPN could be set to clinch a long-term deal to screen Scottish football in the United States.

Record Sport understands the SPFL is believed to be on the verge of clinching an agreement for the next five years for matches to be shown across the Atlantic.

No official comment has yet been made and no deals have been signed and sealed.

However, sources have indicated live coverage of select games could begin as early as next month after the clubs return from the imminent international break.

In the past, rights for coverage of Scottish football in the US have been held by a range of broadcasters, but ESPN are set to provide a permanent home for American viewers.

The most recent partner, sports website Bleacher Report's 'B/R Live' streaming service, opted not to extend their deal at the end of the 2019/20 season as they also dropped the rights to the Champions League and Europa League.

ESPN previously picked up the rights for the Scottish Cup in January 2019.
