The SPFL has asked member clubs to give its board the power to make decisions such as calling the league early again next season if a second Covid-19 spike rears its head.
The resolution proposed will require the league body to consult them over issues.
But it's designed to avoid a repeat of the civil war that has engulfed Scottish football in the event of another wave of infections that could affect football in this country once more.
The new powers would only relate to issues regarding coronavirus for the 2020/21 campaign and any problems relating to the start date of the 2021/22 season.
A letter sent to clubs claims "SPFL rules do not adequately cover the situation where a season has to be curtailed, with a number of games remaining to be played".
And it warns that if they don't approve the proposals it could lead to another bout of the "division" that engulfed the Scottish game from when it was put on pause in March.
It would avoid a repeat of the vote to end the Scottish season which passed after Dundee's 'no' vote was changed to approve the SPFL resolution.
Another vote to deny league reconstruction effectively relegated Hearts, Partick Thistle and Stranraer, leading to legal action from the former two.
Meetings will take place over the coming weeks to discuss the league's plan.
