SPFL board elected as Celtic chief Peter Lawwell's return rubber stamped

The SPFL has confirmed its new board has been elected ahead of the new season.

Celtic chief Peter Lawwell joins St Johnstone's Steve Brown in taking their seat at the league governing body's top table.

Lawwell has replaced Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson as part of a gentleman's agreement where the two Glasgow giants trade places every year.

Brown, meanwhile, has been added in place of Motherwell's Alan Burrows.

Alloa chief Ewen Cameron and Dunfermline's Ross McArthur will represent the Championship, with Brechin City chairman Ken Ferguson doing likewise for League One and Two.

Gordon Thomson of Clyde will be the alternate director for those divisions.

SPFL chairman Murdoch MacLennan welcomed the board members ahead of the Premiership restart on August 1.

He said: “Our game is facing a series of challenges unlike anything it has ever experienced, and everyone involved in Scottish football is working tirelessly to restart matches soon.

“The SPFL directors have a key role to play in navigating those challenges and I’m pleased to welcome them on board for what promises to be a unique season ahead.

“Thanks to the dedication of thousands of people involved in our game, we are within touching distance of matches being resumed.

"It’s vital that we maintain that vigilance and discipline as we move towards a greater semblance of normality for our teams and for the supporters up and down the country who form the backbone of our sport."
