The return of fans to Scottish football have been dealt a fresh blow by the Scottish Government.
But fears that a Tuesday afternoon announcement could plunge the sport back into darkness have thankfully not been realised.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon appears confident that the testing measures in the professional game will allow clubs to carry on playing as now in a safe manner.
However, the return of supporters to Scottish stadia at SPFL clubs is looking uncertain as ever.
Record Sport revealed on Monday night that the SPFL were seeking permission for a further test event this weekend but were told such an arrangement would be impossible at this point.
Despite two test events in the Premiership on September 12, the indicative date to allow fans to return across the board was previously pushed back by three weeks to October 5.
That has now been kicked further into touch with the announcement that future pilot events will be on hold until further notice. The situation will be reviewed in three weeks.
In an address to the Scottish Parliament, Sturgeon said: "It’s important that I indicate today that the route map changes with an indicative date of October 5 are unlikely now to go ahead on that timescale."
