Hamilton Accies have been dealt a major blow in their bid to qualify for the knockout stages of the Premier Sports cup.
The SPFL have awarded Ayr United a 3-0 win over Falkirk in Saturday's Premier Sports Cup Group E fixture with the Bairns unable to fulfil the fixture due to Covid issues
The League One side - who also forfeited last night's clash against Edinburgh City - do not have sufficient players available as numerous players have tested positive for Covid-19 with others self-isolating.
Ayr United will now top Group E while Accies can only reach a maximum of nine points if they beat Albion Rovers on Saturday.
Brian Rice's side can still qualify as one of three best runners-up but it's set to be a nail-biting final day.
Lanarkshire rivals Motherwell and Airdrie will also finish on nine points if they win their final group stage games so it's set to be a dramatic day.
An SPFL spokesman said: “Consistent with previous announcements in respect of similar issues in the group stage of this competition, any club unable or unwilling to field a team in a Premier Sports Cup Round 1 group stage tie, will forfeit the match on the basis of a 3-0 defeat.
"Accordingly, Ayr United have been awarded a 3-0 win in the tie.
“We wish the affected players at Falkirk well in their recovery and will continue to liaise with the club in the coming days.”
