SPFL ask clubs to hand them COVID-19 decision making power in new resolution

The SPFL has asked member clubs to hand them the power to make Covid-19 related decisions next season.

The resolution would mean that clubs must consult with Neil Doncaster and co over issues that arise, with a potential second spike in coronavirus cases still a possibility later this year.

The Scottish game has been plunged into chaos after numerous resolutions and indicative votes surrounding reconstruction and the relegation of Hearts, Partick Thistle and Stranraer as a result.

The proposed new powers would only apply to any issues that arise during the 2020/21 campaign or could affect the start of the 2021/22 league season.

A letter sent to all SPFL clubs read: "SPFL rules do not adequately cover the situation where a season has to be curtailed, with a number of games remaining to be played".

It also includes a warning that a rejection of the proposals could lead to another round of damaging infighting that has dominated the agenda since the season was ended prematurely.

The SPFL have also lodged their defence in response to the joint petition submitted to the Court of Session by Hearts and Partick last week.

Both are looking to have their relegations to the Championship and League One overturned, and will seek £10million in compensation if that is unsuccessful.
