SPFL are panicking over Rangers investigation demand and are trying anything to divert the truth - Hotline

It's D-Day for Rangers’ hopes of forcing a fresh investigation into the SPFL ’s season-ending resolution tomorrow.

But for many Hotline punters there’s no need for another probe - their minds are already made up.

Neil Doncaster and his league board will go back into the dock if enough clubs back Rangers ’ call in Tuesday's vote.

And Graeme Innes, Fraserburgh, said: “With leadership sadly lacking within the SPFL, now is the time for the SFA to step in. Disband the SPFL and take it within the SFA. Appoint a competent deputy Chief Executive who will look after the leagues to allow the CEO to run the rest of Scottish Football. That’s one layer of blazers removed. Sadly, this is probably not within the remit of the SFA.”

Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh, said: “Given the current misery surrounding the SPFL, perhaps it’s time for Messrs Doncaster, McLennan and co to do the decent thing and resign.”

No crystal ball but Robert McEwan, Mount Vernon, reckons a former Crystal Palace owner could have the answers: “We are in such a mess here in Scotland, why don’t we get a guy like Simon Jordan in as an independent arbitrator? That guy is impartial and knows what he’s talking about unlike our lot at the SPFL and SFA and a right few chairmen of our clubs.”

William McCarron, Glasgow, said: “Will the SPFL taking minutes at Tuesday’s EGM? It is a legal requirement in UK law. As Rangers’ dossier revealed, the last 15 board meetings’ minutes were not signed off.

Also the chief executive sending a letter to UEFA saying the majority of clubs in Scotland agreed to end the season early six days before a vote was taken was sheer incompetence.”

Rangers’ dossier might not have been the smoking gun many expected - but Inverness gatecrashed the bitter fall out on Sunday claiming they DO have explosive evidence of bullying and threats.

Jimmy Mac, Glasgow, said: “Caley Thistle have now stated they too have been bullied by the SPFL. Do those on the SPFL board think fans are so inept that every club is lying? It’s panic stations in Hampden, they are grasping at everything and anything in pathetic attempts to divert the truth.”

But Ian Tomlinson, Mossblown, countered: “Who do Inverness think they are causing trouble? They weren’t in line for promotion but now all of a sudden they’re dragging out stuff from weeks ago just because reconstruction has broken down. It’s embarrassing and selfish.”

James McClean, Rothesay, said: “So Rangers chairman Douglas Park says he will foot the bill for a another investigation. It stinks, this all stems back to 2012 when Rangers were naughty and in breach of the rules.”

Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: “ Neil Doncaster and his colleagues have done nothing wrong and have come up with a perfectly legitimate answer to every one of the accusations thrown at them by a jealous and desperate Rangers board. As will be proven when only clubs acting in pitiful self interest vote for an inquiry.”

And John Robertson, South Queensferry, said: “The SPFL are saying they are worried about league reconstruction affecting their deal with Sky. I suggest Sky’s main interest is Old Firm games and also the Edinburgh derby which they appear to be kicking into touch.”

Away from the EGM drama and the future health of the Scottish game was addressed by Hotline regular Dr Robert Pender .

He emailed: “The financial disaster ahead requires radical thinking. The SPFL and SFA should join together to save money and clubs should share grounds such as Dundee and Dundee United, Hearts and Hibs, Kilmarnock/Ayr, Motherwell/Hamilton, Airdrie/Albion Rovers. Sell old grounds and build purpose built share stadiums - in the end running costs would be reduced by 50 per cent.”

Finally, former Foundation of Hearts chief Ian Murray struck a cord with his query over the spending at Tynecastle in recent years.

Kevin Lord, Drylaw, Edinburgh, said: “At last a wee bit of honesty regarding Hearts.

"Ian Murray says it as it is, recent hierarchy blaming all and sundry for the mess at Gorgie and clutching desperately at straws when anyone with half a brain knows where the blame lies. If the fans agree to take this mess on now, reap what you sow.”
