SPFL announce 'unanimous agreement' to end Scottish Premiership as top flight standings revealed

The Scottish Premiership season has been brought to a close today as the SPFL revealed a "unanimous agreement that the top flight cannot be finished."

The season "has been concluded with immediate effect" it was revealed in a statement today after consultation with the 12 top flight teams.

The decision means that Celtic are crowned champions and Hearts have been relegated to the Championship.

In Lanarkshire, it means that Motherwell finish third by averaging 1.5333 points per game - just 0.0333 points ahead of Aberdeen.

The Steelmen now look set to be awarded the Europa League spot.

At this stage, the club state they "have been nominated as one of Scotland’s participants for the 2020/21 UEFA Europa League qualifying round."

For Hamilton Accies, it means Brian Rice's side official survive the drop and secure a seventh consecutive top flight season.

Declan Gallagher has been tipped to make the grade in England (SNS Group)

Despite a 11th place finish there will be no Premiership play-off this season.

Around £7million will be paid out to clubs following the conclusion of the campaign.

SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster said: “On Friday, Ladbrokes Premiership clubs expressed their clear and unanimous view that there was no realistic prospect of completing the outstanding fixtures from Season 2019/20. 

"The SPFL Board met this morning and in line with the express agreement of member clubs in April, the Board determined that League Season 2019/20 and the Ladbrokes Premiership be brought to an end."
