SPFL agree to postpone Ayr United's clash with Raith Rovers following Covid outbreak at Somerset Park

Ayr United's cinch Championship clash with Raith on Saturday has been postponed.

The SPFL tonight confirmed it has agreed to Ayr's request to call off the game following a Covid outbreak at Somerset.

A total of six first-team players have tested positive since the end of last week.

And with a number of others deemed close contacts, United were left struggling to field a team for the weekend visit of Rovers.

David Hopkin's men have not trained since the start of this week, when the full scale of the outbreak became apparent.

Ayr's club staff are also working from home until Monday.

An SPFL spokesman said: “After reviewing the information provided by Ayr United, Saturday’s match between Ayr United and Raith Rovers has been postponed and a further update will be provided in due course.”

It follow's the decision earlier this afternoon to postpone Airdrie's game with Alloa in League One following a similar Covid outbreak at the Diamonds.
