Jamie Laing would have made Strictly final without injury, says Spencer Matthews

Spencer Matthews has heaped praise on Jamie Laing and said he would have made the Strictly Come Dancing final had he not been forced to withdraw from injury.

Jamie had been due to appear on the show with Oti Mabuse but had to forfeit his place after hurting his foot during the recording of the launch show.

Spencer, 31, said Jamie would have got just as far as the Emmerdale star if not further had he competed.

"I apologise, I don't know who Kelvin is," Spencer said of Jamie's replacement. "But I think Jamie would have had a very good chance of going all the way.

"He's extremely loveable and very competitive and I really think the public would have got on side with him," said Spencer, who is fronting Argos' Book of Dreams campaign.

Spencer also hinted Jamie will resume his place next year if asked.

"It's the perfect show for him. He is fun, energetic and with a heart of gold," added the dad.

Spencer has been best pals with Jamie since their Made In Chelsea days and considers him one of few people he can trust.

"I know very few people like Jamie and I surround myself with very few people. He's brilliant and I would love for nothing more than for the whole country to see that and to see him through to the end of that show. He'd be fantastic!," Spencer predicted.

This week Kelvin will take to the dancefloor with Oti as they compete against Karim Zeroual, Emma Barton and Chris Ramsey, who survived the last dance off.

While dad Spencer is gearing himself for a Christmas abroad with wife Vogue and one-year-old Theordore as they jet off to the Caribbean.

Before he disappears for some winter sun, Spencer will be reading to youngsters at Argos’ Tottenham Court Road in London on Sunday 8 December between 9.00am – 11.30am.

The reality star is supporting Argos' Book of Dreams campaign, which takes centre stage in its Christmas TV campaign this year.

Spencer will be celebrate the Christmas tradition of circling your most-wanted gifts in the Argos catalogue and encouraging parents to spend time reading with their children over Christmas.
