Speke is one of the hardest place in the country to pass your driving test

New figures have revealed Speke is the fourth hardest place in the country to pass your driving test.

The analysis, based on official DVLA data , shows pass rates in the first three months of 2019-20.

And among the very worst in Britain, is Speke with a pass rate of 33 per cent.

Despite it's poor ranking, the pass rate at  the test centre, on Skyhawk Avenue, is up from 32.5 per cent in 2018/19.

This means Speke has dropped two places in the list of places with terrible pass rates.

But the place at the very top of the list – Birmingham’s Pavilion centre, with a pass rate of just 28.9 per cent, has now closed.

That means Speke may yet rise again.

However, it's not all bad news, Merseyside does better than most major areas when it comes to getting that all-important pass.

London, the West Midlands and Greater Manchester dominate a list of the 50 test centre with the worst pass rates so far this year.

Norris Green, with a pass rate of just under 40 per cent, is down at number 30 on the list.

It is important to recognise that pass rates are invariably worse in cities than they are in more remote areas.

That is likely because taking a test on a busy road is more taxing, with more opportunities to fail.

The highest pass rates are almost always in far-flung corners of Scotland.

For example, so far in 2019-20 some 87.5 per cent of candidates have passed in Inveraray, and 88.6 per cent in both Campbelltown and Lochgilphead.

Across Britain as a whole, 393,422 people took a practical test in April, May and June this year.

Some 46.4 per cent managed to pass.

That is higher than the 45.8 per cent recorded for the whole of 2018/19 – although it is important to note that pass rates can drop during winter months.
