Speke is hardest place in Liverpool to pass your driving test

Data has revealed Speke is one of the hardest places in the country to pass your driving test.

According to the latest stats - for April to December 2018 - Speke Liverpool test centre, on Skyhawk Avenue, has one of the lowest pass rates in Britain.

Out of 4,858 tests the driving centre had a pass rate of only 32.6% - meaning only 1582 of learners dropped their L-plates.

Meanwhile Britain's highest pass rate is at the driving test centre in Inveraray, in Argyll and Bute, where 84.9% of learner drivers were passed.

Every three months, data is published on the pass rates at all driving test centres in England, Scotland and Wales.

And the rate varies hugely - from below 30% to more than 80%.

The lowest rate at just 29.6% was recorded as the Pavilion test centre in north Birmingham, at 29.6%.

This was closely followed by another Birmingham test centre in South Yardley, which had a 32.3% pass rate out of almost 7,000 tests taken.

And Speke has been recorded as third worst in the country.

Other centres in Merseyside such as St Helens had a pass rate of 48.4% with 2,141 learners passing their test.

In Norris Green 42.4% of 9306 tests taken were passed and Southport had a 50% pass rate out of 4156 learner drivers.

However a spokesman for the DVSA said all candidates, no matter where they take their tests, "are assessed to the same level".

Chief examiner Mark Winn said: "All candidates are assessed to the same level and the result of their test is entirely dependent on their performance on the day.

"It's essential that all drivers demonstrate they have the right skills, knowledge and attitude to drive safely.

"The driver testing and training regime tests candidates' ability to drive safely and responsibly as well as making sure they know the theory behind safe driving."
