After gaining plenty of attention, including being one of the nation's most searched properties through realestatec.om.au during its first week on the market, the Speers Point Garage has been secured by a local buyer for $378,000.
Shaun Elms, of Ray White Newcastle Lake Macquarie, marketed the historic Lake Macquarie landmark at 155 Main Road.
It was set for auction on March 28 with a guide of $390,000 but due to coronavirus restrictions preventing public auctions Mr Elms instead put a closing date on offers. In all, six offers from local buyers were submitted with the sale made on March 27.
Built circa 1926, the Speers Point Garage serviced the community for over 70 years before ceasing operation as a service station around 30 years ago. The local heritage-listed building retains its original facade and is on a level 809 square metre block with a 21-metre frontage around 500 metres from Lake Macquarie. It is zoned R3 medium to high density.
"I'm not sure what the buyer's plans are yet; he just loves the building and will try to bring it back to its former glory," Mr Elms said.
