NAKHON SI THAMMARAT: Two people were killed and three seriously injured after a pickup truck they were travelling in skidded off a road in Ron Phibun district, hit a lamp post and overturned on Sunday morning, police said.
The accident took place at about 10am near Moo 3 village in tambon Saothong on Nakhon Si Thammarat-Thung Song road.
A police investigation revealed that the four-door Mitsubishi pickup with five people on board was trying to overtake a 22-wheel truck when it skidded off the road and rammed into a lamp post on the road median. The impact caused the pickup to roll over and hit an Isuzu pickup before coming to rest upside down.
A man and a woman -- Prayoon Phetrod and Sukanya Somphiew -- in the Mitsubishi pick-up were killed. Three other men in the pick-up -- Narongsak Somphiew, 46, the driver, Noppol Rabuepol, 77, and Tawatchai Wongraksa, 77 -- were seriously injured.
All of them were from Krabi's Plai Phraya district.
The driver of the other pick-up, which was damaged in the rear, was not hurt.
