A motorcyclist resisted arrest during a "prolonged scuffle" with an officer in the middle of an intersection in Gungahlin, police have said.
The 20-year-old Nicholls man was charged with multiple driving offences and is set to face the ACT Magistrates Court in August.
Police allege that about 2.20pm on Friday, July 10, officers were patrolling Gungahlin Drive when they saw a black motorcycle with no number plate speeding eastbound towards the Gungahlin town centre.
A short time later, a road policing motorcyclist found the motorcycle stopped at traffic lights at the intersection of Gundaroo Drive and Mirrabei Drive.
The officer pulled up alongside the motorcyclist, switched off the engine and directed the rider to stop.
It is alleged the rider then attempted to push his motorcycle away and restart it.
The officer dismounted and attempted to arrest him, "resulting in a prolonged scuffle that moved into the middle of the intersection in view of a large number of motorists and pedestrians", ACT Policing said in a media release.
The 20-year-old rider was arrested and tested negative for alcohol and drugs.
The man, who was unlicenced, was charged with failing to stop a motor vehicle for police, resisting a territory public official, using an unregistered vehicle, contravening an interlock condition and using a number plate not attached as required.
Police have urged anyone who witnessed or has dashcam footage of the incident to provide their contact details to Crime Stoppers via the Crime Stoppers ACT website, quoting 8439574.
