A speeding driver picked the wrong time to overtake - as the vehicle he passed was an unmarked police car.
Officers weren’t impressed by Christopher Gibson’s manoeuvre and even less so as he went the wrong way on a roundabout.
Gibson, 26, of Ladder Court, East Kilbride, was fined £500 and banned from driving for a year at Hamilton Sheriff Court.
He must resit his test if he wants to drive again.
Gibson admitted driving dangerously on Stroud Road, East Kilbride, on May 29 last year.
He was on bail for another matter at the time.
The charge stated that he drove at excessive speed and failed to maintain a safe braking distance between his vehicle and the unmarked police car in front.
Gibson overtook the police vehicle when it was unsafe to do so then veered on to the wrong side of the road.
The police officers noticed he failed repeatedly to slow down on the approach to roundabouts and then drove the wrong way around one.
Gibson also admitted driving carelessly in the same area on June 21.
On that occasion he was again seen to be driving too fast and overtook a vehicle when it was unsafe.
He drove into the path of oncoming traffic and failed to slow down at a roundabout.
Defence agent Gerry McGuire said Gibson was “somewhat stressed out” in relation to domestic matters at the time. He wished to apologise for the way he had driven.
Passing sentence, Sheriff Liam Murphy told the accused his driving during the Stroud Road incident had been “clearly dangerous”.
However, he had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity so the fine would be reduced by a third from £750.
